Tool Room Associate
IN MUSKEGON, MI

SCHERDEL Sales & Technology, Inc., located in Muskegon, MI since 1999, with a Metro Detroit office in Brighton, MI, is a subsidiary of SCHERDEL GmbH, located in Marktredwitz in the state of Bavaria, Germany. We are currently managed by the fourth generation of the founding family with sales and manufacturing activities at 42 sites in various European countries, North and South America and in Asia. SCHERDEL is strongly value driven and has a long track record of caring for our associates in many ways.

Job Overview:

We’re seeking a hands-on Tool Room Associate to support our in-house tooling needs for our off shift — with a primary focus on grinding and machining operations. This role involves operating manual and CNC equipment, inspecting tooling components, and maintaining accurate records. Ideal candidates have a background in machining, strong attention to detail, and are comfortable reading blueprints and using precision measuring tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grind and shape precision tooling components using manual and CNC machines such as grinders, lathes, and milling machines — ensuring each part meets exact specifications and performance standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and toolmakers to interpret blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions — turning concepts into high-quality, functional tooling parts.
  • Perform hands-on part inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, and dial indicators to verify critical dimensions, alignments, and tolerances.
  • Inspect finished tooling and dies for surface finish, contour accuracy, and overall quality — ensuring all components are production-ready.
  • Maintain accurate records of tooling maintenance, modifications, and part history using internal documentation systems — helping keep the tool room organized and efficient.
  • Support continuous improvement by following best practices for machining, maintenance, and safety while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Works according to Scherdel’s quality and environmental system requirements, and customer quality requirements

Shift times:

  • We offer an additional $3.00/hour for working on our off shift!
  • 2nd shift: 3:00pm to 11:00pm
  • 3rd shift: 11:00pm to 7:00am
